NAIROBI, Kenya- Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced a six-month extension of the waiver on fees charged for the replacement of national identity cards and changes of personal details.
In a Special Gazette Notice dated April 30, 2026, Murkomen said the extension will run until October 30, giving Kenyans more time to access the services free of charge.
The CS said the move is part of the government’s broader plan to ensure all citizens can obtain critical identification documents needed to access services such as employment, banking, and government programmes.
Murkomen noted that the directive complements reforms under President William Samoei Ruto, including the scrapping of fees for first-time ID applicants, removal of birth certificate authentication charges, and easing vetting requirements in border regions.
He urged all eligible Kenyans to take advantage of the waiver period and register or update their identification details before the deadline.
