NAIROBI, Kenya – Pauline Njoroge has hinted at the imminent unveiling of a new political party linked to Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, saying the party that supporters have been waiting for will be revealed “very very soon.”
Njoroge made the remarks on Tuesday in a post on X, appearing to add fresh momentum to speculation over the political vehicle being prepared by the Linda Mwananchi movement.
“Very very soon, the Party that we have all been waiting for will be unveiled! H.E Edwin Sifuna amejipanga sawa sawa!” Njoroge wrote.
Her remarks come days after reports that Sifuna’s political team had settled on a party associated with the Ukombozi name, amid a separate and increasingly prominent dispute over the same identity.
Sifuna’s party expected to be unveiled soon
Reports have indicated that Sifuna is preparing to unveil a political party through which he would pursue his political ambitions ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The Star reported that Sifuna was expected to unveil his party on October 1, with sources within Linda Mwananchi saying the team had settled on the Ukombozi name.
Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi had also said the movement had secured an alternative political vehicle and that it would be unveiled within two weeks as the team continued efforts to secure its preferred party identity.
Njoroge’s latest post did not disclose the name of the party or give a specific unveiling date.
Azimio already adopts Ukombozi Alliance name
The speculation comes shortly after the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition formally changed its name to The Ukombozi Alliance (TUA).
Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka announced the rebranding on September 21, saying the decision had been unanimously approved by the coalition’s leadership.
Kalonzo said the alliance would operate under the philosophy “One Term, One Team, One Coalition” as opposition parties reorganise ahead of the 2027 elections.
The timing has brought the Ukombozi name into sharper focus because of reports linking Sifuna’s political project to a party carrying a similar name.
Ndegwa Njiru defends Kalonzo over Ukombozi name
The emerging name dispute has prompted a response from Wiper Patriotic Front spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru, who argued that Kalonzo had been using related terminology before it became associated with Sifuna’s political project.
Njiru said Kalonzo had used the phrase “Komboa Kenya” as early as April 2025 and argued that the word “Ukomboa” subsequently gave rise to “Ukombozi”.
His comments came after speculation that Kalonzo’s adoption of the Ukombozi Alliance name could create tensions with Sifuna’s camp.
Njiru’s argument is a defence of Kalonzo’s position on the terminology and does not by itself establish ownership of the political name.
Proposed Ukombozi party faces registration hurdle
The issue has also moved into the formal political-party registration process.
The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) rejected a proposed change of the United Democratic Party’s name to Ukombozi People’s Party (UPP), citing similarities with The Ukombozi Alliance.
The Registrar relied on Section 8(c) of the Political Parties Act, which allows a proposed party name, slogan or symbol to be rejected where it closely resembles that of another political party or legal entity in a way that could cause confusion.
The decision has complicated reports that the Ukombozi People’s Party could become the political vehicle for the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Ukombozi dispute adds intrigue to opposition realignment
The developments come as opposition parties continue efforts to reorganise and build new political alliances ahead of the 2027 election.
Kalonzo has said the Ukombozi Alliance’s new name should not become a source of division within the opposition, maintaining that the focus should remain on keeping the political formations together.
Njoroge’s latest message now adds to expectations that Sifuna’s political vehicle could soon be publicly unveiled, potentially providing clarity on the party’s name and structure.
