NAIROBI, Kenya – Police have seized 927 rolls of suspected bhang in separate operations in Kiambu and Kirinyaga counties, with one suspect arrested in Kirinyaga as officers intensify efforts to disrupt the distribution of narcotics.
In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said officers recovered 596 rolls of bhang during a targeted operation in the Wataalam area of Ruiru Sub-County, Kiambu County.
The raid was conducted by officers attached to Ruiru Police Station as part of intelligence-led efforts to identify and disrupt suspected drug distribution networks.
Police said the recovered substances had been secured at the station as exhibits while investigations continued to establish those connected to the alleged trafficking activities.
No arrests were announced in connection with the Ruiru seizure.
Suspect Arrested With 331 Rolls in Kirinyaga
In a separate operation in Kirinyaga County, officers from Ciagi-ini Police Station, working alongside National Government Administration Officers, intercepted a suspect in Ciagi-ini village.
According to the NPS, the suspect was found with 331 rolls of suspected bhang and crude weapons.
The suspect was arrested and detained at Ciagi-ini Police Station pending arraignment in court. The recovered substances and weapons were also secured as exhibits.
The police statement did not disclose the suspect’s identity or provide further details about the weapons recovered.
Police Pledge Continued Anti-Narcotics Operations
The two seizures bring the total quantity of suspected bhang recovered in the operations to 927 rolls.
The NPS said it would continue conducting intelligence-led operations targeting the possession, trafficking and distribution of illegal drugs across the country.
The service also credited cooperation between police officers, national government administrators and members of the public for supporting efforts to identify suspected criminal activity.
The latest operations come amid other recent anti-narcotics enforcement activities in Kiambu County, including a separate October operation in which police reportedly seized 483 rolls of suspected bhang and arrested three suspects.
The suspect arrested in Kirinyaga remains subject to the legal process, while investigations into the Ruiru seizure are ongoing.
