NAIROBI, Kenya — Reports of night-time robberies involving suspects armed with pangas have raised security concerns among residents of Sunton, Kasarani, where pedestrians are reportedly being targeted along local routes.
The reported incidents have heightened concerns over the safety of residents travelling on foot after dark, particularly along poorly lit roads, isolated stretches and areas with limited pedestrian activity.
Residents have been urged to minimise unnecessary movement on foot at night and, where possible, use well-lit and populated routes.
Those travelling after dark are also advised to avoid openly displaying phones, cash or other valuables and to consider moving in groups where possible.
Anyone confronted by armed suspects should prioritise their safety and avoid resisting, as confrontation could increase the risk of injury.
Residents have also been encouraged to promptly report suspicious activity, robbery hotspots and information about suspected repeat offenders to the police.
Two Robbery Suspects Arrested In Garissa
Meanwhile, police officers based at Garissa Police Station arrested two suspects linked to alleged robbery with violence in the Bulla Sagarey area on September 29, 2026.
Police said the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation and that the suspects were allegedly armed with machetes at the time of their arrest.
The duo is suspected of being linked to a series of violent robberies in the region.
They are being held at Garissa Police Station as police complete processing ahead of their expected arraignment to face the relevant charges.
