NAIROBI, Kenya — Residents in parts of Kenya should prepare for rain, showers and thunderstorms on Saturday, September 19, as the Kenya Meteorological Department forecasts wet conditions across several counties.
The latest daily forecast shows a mix of rainfall, cloudy skies and sunny intervals across the country, with conditions varying significantly by region. The forecast is valid for Saturday, September 19.
Rain expected in coastal counties
Morning showers are expected in Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Lamu and Tana River.
The coastal counties will continue experiencing some rainfall into the afternoon, with Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi forecast to receive light showers.
Lamu is expected to remain wet through both the morning and afternoon periods.
Taita Taveta, meanwhile, is forecast to have a chance of light afternoon showers after a sunny morning.
Western Kenya to see afternoon showers
The afternoon is expected to bring the most significant rainfall activity in Western Kenya.
Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kericho, Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia are forecast to experience light showers and thunderstorms over a few places.
Bungoma could record the heaviest activity in the region, with moderate showers and thunderstorms expected during the afternoon.
Lake Victoria region also expecting rain
Several counties around Lake Victoria are also expected to receive afternoon showers.
Kisumu, Siaya, Homa Bay and Nyamira are forecast to experience light showers over a few places.
However, Migori and Kisii are expected to remain largely dry, with sunny intervals during the day.
Central Kenya could see morning showers
Some central counties are expected to experience light rain in the morning before conditions improve.
Embu, Nyeri and Kirinyaga have a chance of light morning showers followed by sunny intervals.
Nyandarua is expected to remain sunny in the morning before a chance of light showers develops in the afternoon.
Busia is also forecast to experience possible light morning rain before conditions become sunnier later in the day.
Northern Kenya to remain mostly dry
Much of the arid north and parts of the Rift Valley are expected to remain dry.
Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Marsabit, Isiolo, Turkana, West Pokot and Samburu are forecast to experience sunny intervals during both the morning and afternoon.
Mandera is expected to record the country’s highest temperature at 37°C.
Nairobi to have cloudy morning, sunny afternoon
Nairobi residents should expect a cloudy morning followed by sunny intervals in the afternoon.
The forecast does not indicate rainfall for the capital during the day.
