HARARE, Zimbabwe – Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has joined the Chivayo family in mourning businessman Wicknell Chivayo, his wife Lucy “Lulu” Muteke-Chivayo and three others who died in a helicopter crash.
Mnangagwa said he visited the Chivayo family home in Gletwyn, Harare, on Wednesday evening alongside senior government officials to convey condolences following the deaths.
The helicopter crashed in rural Marondera on Wednesday afternoon, leaving the country in shock and mourning, according to the President.

Five Killed In Crash
Mnangagwa described Chivayo as a man of “grand vision” whose philanthropic activities had touched lives in Zimbabwe and across Africa.
He said the Chivayo family had contributed to public service, religion, culture and sport through what he described as acts of patriotism and philanthropy.
The President also mourned the two crew members and a security aide who died in the crash.
“During this moment of profound heartbreak, we stand together in unity, compassion, and prayer with the bereaved families,” Mnangagwa said.
He called for collective strength as the affected families and the country mourn the deaths.
Nation In Mourning
Mnangagwa expressed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for comfort for those affected by the tragedy.
The circumstances surrounding the helicopter crash are expected to be investigated by the relevant authorities.
The President concluded his message by asking for prayers for the deceased and their families.
“May their dear souls rest in eternal peace,” he said.
