KIRINYAGA, Kenya – Police have launched investigations after the body of a pregnant woman was discovered by the roadside along the Piai-Itangi Murram Road in Mwea East Sub-County.
The deceased, identified as Catherine Njuru, was found early Friday morning with visible injuries to her head and hip, according to the National Police Service (NPS).
Kirinyaga County DCI officers, led by the County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO), joined local police investigators at the scene and began probing the circumstances surrounding her death.
The Central Regional Police command has also joined the investigation through the Regional Criminal Investigations Officer (RCIO).
IG Orders Expedited Investigations
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has been briefed on the incident and directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to expedite investigations and establish what happened.
The NPS described the incident as a suspected murder and said investigators were working to identify and apprehend those responsible.
“The NPS condoles with the family, relatives, and friends of the deceased and commits to expeditious and conclusive investigations to ensure that any person or persons responsible for this barbaric crime are brought to justice,” the service said.
Police urged residents of Itangi to remain calm and avoid speculation as investigations continue.
Police Seek Information
The NPS has appealed to members of the public with information about the incident to report to the nearest police station or law enforcement officer.
Information can also be provided through the emergency numbers 999 and 911, or anonymously through the DCI’s #FichuaKwaDCI channels on 0800 722 203 and WhatsApp 0709 570 000.
The police service said it would provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
