Gachagua, Sifuna Attend Ngemi Cia Watho in Thika

Date:

THIKA, Kenya- DCP Leader Rigathi Gachagua and Linda Mwananchi Movement Leader Edwin Sifuna are attending the second edition of Ngemi Cia Watho, a gathering of legal professionals from the Mt Kenya region being held in Thika, Kiambu County.

The forum brings together advocates and other legal practitioners for professional engagement, cultural celebration and dialogue on public affairs.

It is being held at a time when political leaders are intensifying consultations and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The attendance of Gachagua and Sifuna has drawn attention because the two leaders are associated with separate opposition formations that have increasingly held public and private engagements on Kenya’s political future.

Legal fraternity meets in Thika

Ngemi Cia Watho has developed into a meeting point for lawyers and professionals from the GEMA region, bringing together members of the legal fraternity from the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru and Akamba communities.

The forum combines cultural expression with professional networking and discussions on governance, leadership and the role of lawyers in public life.

Its inaugural edition brought together advocates and political leaders, with speakers urging legal professionals to become more active in leadership, policymaking and the defence of constitutional values.

The second edition continues that focus, providing a platform for lawyers from the region to interact beyond the courtroom and discuss issues affecting their communities and the country.

The event is also expected to showcase cultural heritage and strengthen connections among professionals drawn from different parts of the region.

Gachagua and Sifuna’s presence draws interest

Gachagua has previously used the Ngemi Cia Watho platform to call on lawyers and other professionals to seek leadership positions and take a more active role in national governance.

He has argued that professionals have a responsibility to help shape sound laws, strengthen institutions and protect public accountability.

Sifuna, who is also a Nairobi Senator, joins the legal fraternity gathering as his movement continues to position itself in national politics ahead of 2027.

Sifuna has emerged as a prominent opposition figure through the Linda Mwananchi Movement, which is seeking to build national structures and rally support around a broader political agenda.

The two leaders’ attendance at the same forum comes weeks after Gachagua hosted Sifuna and a delegation of Linda Mwananchi leaders at his Wamunyoro residence in Nyeri County.

That meeting centred on political cooperation and the future of the opposition, with both sides indicating the need for continued engagement.

No formal alliance announced

Despite the growing contact between the two camps, neither Gachagua nor Sifuna has announced a formal coalition, joint ticket or electoral agreement.

Their appearance at Ngemi Cia Watho is therefore significant as another public interaction between leaders whose political formations are central to discussions around opposition unity.

Gachagua has repeatedly called for a united opposition front ahead of 2027, while Sifuna has said political engagement should be guided by a shared national agenda rather than regional considerations.

The Thika forum offers both leaders an opportunity to engage an audience of legal professionals at a time when debates around constitutionalism, governance and political representation are expected to feature prominently in the next election cycle.

Professionals and politics

The participation of senior political figures at the forum reflects the growing importance placed on professionals in Kenya’s political conversation.

Lawyers have often played a key role in electoral disputes, constitutional litigation, lawmaking and public-interest advocacy.

Ngemi Cia Watho provides a setting where those professional roles intersect with culture, leadership and national politics.

As the second edition unfolds in Thika, the presence of Gachagua and Sifuna is likely to keep attention on the evolving talks among opposition leaders and the role of professionals in shaping Kenya’s political direction ahead of 2027.
