DP Leader Justin Muturi Endorses Lenny Kivuti for Embu Governor Race

Date:

EMBU, Kenya- Democratic Party Leader Justin Muturi has endorsed Devolution Empowerment Party Leader Lenny Kivuti as his preferred candidate for the Embu governorship in the 2027 General Election.

Muturi made the declaration at Umau Stadium in Kiritiri, where he said Mbeere leaders must place unity and the future of Embu County above clan affiliations, personal ambitions and political differences.

Kivuti, who leads the Devolution Empowerment Party, commonly known as the Bus Party, received Muturi’s backing during a gathering attended by residents from the Mbeere region.

The two leaders were also ceremonially honoured and blessed by Ngome elders of Mbeere in a symbolic show of support for their call to unite the community politically.

Muturi calls for unity beyond clan lines

Muturi said his endorsement of Kivuti was intended to signal a new political approach in Mbeere, founded on common purpose rather than divisions between clans.

He said the interests of Mbeere and the wider Embu County should take priority over individual political ambitions and historical differences.

“Hon. Lenny Kivuti and I come from different clans, but today we have demonstrated that our shared vision for the people of Mbeere and Embu County transcends those differences,” Muturi said.

The Democratic Party leader said the declaration at Umau Stadium sent a clear message that Mbeere leaders were prepared to work together ahead of the 2027 elections.

He urged residents across Mbeere and Embu County to embrace unity and support leaders who understand local aspirations and are committed to meaningful development.

Elders bless political declaration

The participation of the Ngome elders gave the event cultural significance, with Muturi saying their blessing affirmed a shared commitment to leadership, unity and service to the people.

The elders’ involvement also highlighted the importance of community backing as political leaders begin consolidating support ahead of the 2027 contest.

Muturi said the political realignment was not about elevating one clan over another, but about creating a united front capable of advancing Mbeere’s interests within the larger Embu County political landscape.

He said Mbeere residents should choose shared purpose over division and work towards a common future for the county.

“The declaration has been made. The elders have spoken. Mbeere is united,” Muturi said.

Kivuti gains backing in Embu race

Muturi’s endorsement gives Kivuti a high-profile boost as he positions himself for the Embu governorship race.

Kivuti has been building his political base through the Devolution Empowerment Party, while Muturi remains a key political figure in Mbeere and the wider Embu region.

The endorsement could strengthen Kivuti’s mobilisation in Mbeere, particularly if the two leaders succeed in rallying support across clan and constituency lines.

The Embu gubernatorial contest is expected to attract intense competition as parties and aspirants form alliances ahead of the polls.

For Muturi, the declaration places unity at the centre of his political message, with the DP leader arguing that development and representation should guide the region’s electoral choices.

Focus turns to 2027 mobilisation

Muturi said the journey towards a united, prosperous and politically empowered Embu County would require residents to work together from the grassroots.

He called on Mbeere and Embu residents to rally behind leadership that respects communities, listens to their concerns and delivers development.

The Umau Stadium declaration now sets the stage for closer cooperation between Muturi and Kivuti as they seek to shape the political direction of Mbeere and Embu County ahead of the 2027 General Election.
