Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho Dies

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Ol Kalou Member of Parliament David Njuguna Kiaraho has died while receiving specialised treatment, bringing to an end a decade-long political career marked by both development initiatives and controversy.

According to preliminary reports, the legislator passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026, after a prolonged illness.

However, the exact cause of death and details surrounding his medical condition had not been made public by the time of publication.

Kiaraho had reportedly been unwell for some time, seeking treatment both locally and abroad. His death now creates a vacancy in the Ol Kalou parliamentary seat, setting the stage for a by-election in accordance with Article 101 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010, which governs the replacement of Members of Parliament.

First elected in 2013, Kiaraho served three consecutive terms after successfully defending his seat in the 2017 and 2022 General Elections.

During his tenure in the National Assembly, he sat on key committees, including the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works, and Housing, as well as the Procedure and House Rules Committee.

Despite his illness, constituency activities continued in his absence through representatives. As recently as March 25, a delegation received 40 water tanks donated by the Kenya Wildlife Service to support schools in water harvesting during the rainy season.

Kiaraho’s last public appearance was reported in November 2025, when he conducted an inspection tour of infrastructure projects within his constituency, underscoring his focus on development initiatives.

However, his time in office was not without scrutiny. The late MP had previously been linked to investigations over the alleged mismanagement of approximately Sh120 million in National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) resources between 2013 and 2018.

In 2020, he was also questioned by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over similar concerns relating to constituency funds. No conclusive findings or convictions were publicly reported.
