MURANG’A, Kenya – Kenya- Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua has said he will finally be acquitted of all the allegations he was subjected to during his Impeachment process.
The former DP who served for barely two years through the 2022 General Election has said that one of the allegations of his Impeachment was undermining the government which he now says was telling President William Ruto off about the controversial Adani deal and which has finally come to pass.
“I was the only person who would dare speak the truth to the president. My only problem with the president was being truthful. Before the Impeachment, I told President Ruto that the Adani deal was not good for the country. There was alot of corruption in that deal. The response from the president was to facilitate my Impeachment with the allegations that I was undermining his government. But with time, I will be exonerated of all the charges,” Gachagua told the congregation.
Gachagua was speaking at AIPCA Kangari in Kigumo Constituency, Murang’a County during a Sunday mass.
Putting President Ruto on the defence, the former DP has said that the government has turned a deaf ear to people who elected them and were it not for the government of the United States of America intervention, the Adani deal would be active.
“It has taken the hand of American government for a change of heart of President Ruto. It was not his will but external forces. Why did we get here?. The people had already pronounced themselves about the deal but the government kept mum,” he added.
He has now asked the president and all elected leaders to listen to the people because they are ‘supreme’.
“I’m kindly asking all the elected leaders led by President Ruto to listen to the people before imposing exploitative policies to them. We used to campaign with the mama mboga slogan but there is no one who speaks about them nowadays. Listen to the people. It’s the people who gave you the job,” he further said.
On his commitment in ensuring that the vote-rich Mt Kenya region stays united moving forward, he stated that he will give what he termed as a signal starting from January next year on the political journey of the mountain.
“I’m engaging with diverse leaders, current and former, professionals, Church leaders and other people and I wil give a signal soon. We have already known our friends and we will even make more,” he revealed.
