Kenyan gospel entertainer Frederick Karumba, popularly known as DJ Krowbar, has emotionally remembered his late wife, Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, on what would have been their 17th wedding anniversary.
Krowbar marked the milestone on Thursday, September 3, 2026, by sharing photographs from what he described as the couple’s final date together.
The photographs, taken in September 2025, showed Krowbar and Joyce spending time at a tea farm as they celebrated their anniversary away from crowded public spaces.
In his emotional social media post, Krowbar recalled that Joyce had recently been discharged from hospital following a transplant procedure when the couple celebrated their anniversary in 2025.
Her condition meant that they had to avoid public places because her immunity was low.
“These images were taken last year on a day like today. My wife had just been discharged from her transplant procedure a few weeks before (you can notice she is a bit swollen in her face) and it was our anniversary and we were not allowed to go to any public spaces cause her immunity was low,” Krowbar wrote.
They bought Joyce her favourite sandwich and travelled to the tea farms, where they spent time together and reflected on their marriage. Krowbar described the outing as one of the most meaningful dates they had shared, unaware that it would become their final date together.
“This was the last date we ever had and it was the best date that year. We bought her favourite sandwich from Java and we went to chill at the tea farms and thanked God for the many years and the years ahead,” he wrote.
Looking back at the photographs nearly a year later, Krowbar said he was grateful that he had been fully present during the special day.
“I am grateful, deeply grateful that God allowed me to be so aware cause I really savoured this day,” he wrote.
Krowbar then revealed the painful significance of September 3. The date would have marked 17 years since he and Joyce got married.
“Today would have been our 17th anniversary,” he wrote, accompanying the message with numerous crying emojis.
He also expressed his longing for Joyce, whom he described through his emotional words as someone whose absence continues to affect him deeply.
“Gosh, am I not going to miss this girl! Weuh!” he added.
Joyce died on January 26, 2026, after a prolonged health battle. Her medical journey had included a kidney transplant, with Krowbar and his family documenting some of the challenges they faced during her illness.
Her death came only months after the couple had marked their 16th wedding anniversary, making the photographs Krowbar shared on Thursday particularly significant.
Since Joyce’s death, Krowbar has continued to honour her memory while navigating life without his longtime partner. The couple shared four children.
