‘Military Dominance Is Illusory’: Kipkorir Calls for Palestinian Sovereignty

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Kenyan lawyer Donald B. Kipkorir has urged Israel’s international allies to push for a political settlement with Palestinians, warning that prolonged restrictions and subjugation will not deliver lasting security in the Middle East.

In a post on X, Kipkorir argued that Israel’s military superiority could not permanently resolve its historical conflict with Palestinians without a genuine commitment to Palestinian independence and sovereignty.

“True Friends of Israel should advise them that imposing near permanent siege on Palestinian people in both West Bank and Gaza is no solution to resolve the intractable Jewish – Palestinian Historical Conflict,” he wrote.

Kipkorir cautioned that even populations facing overwhelming military power would resist indefinite subjugation, drawing comparisons with historical empires that eventually declined despite their power and territorial reach.

He argued that Israel’s dominance in the region would remain fragile without a political settlement allowing Palestinians to govern themselves on sovereign territory.

“True Security is in genuine rapprochement with Palestinians,” Kipkorir said, calling for reconciliation between the two peoples.

Call for Palestinian sovereignty

The lawyer’s comments come amid continuing international debate over the future of Gaza and the occupied West Bank, including restrictions on movement, settlement expansion and the prospects for an independent Palestinian state.

The United Nations has repeatedly called for a two-state solution, with Israel and an independent Palestinian state living alongside each other in peace and security.

In September 2026, UN Secretary-General António Guterres warned that conditions for an independent, viable and territorially connected Palestinian state were being undermined by settlement expansion, displacement and violence in the occupied territory. He said Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, should remain territorially and politically integrated under a single legitimate Palestinian government.

Kipkorir’s argument similarly centres on the view that security arrangements alone cannot resolve the conflict without addressing Palestinian aspirations for self-determination.

His remarks frame Palestinian sovereignty not only as a question of political rights, but also as a condition for lasting regional stability.

The conflict has endured for decades, with disputes over territory, security, settlements, Palestinian statehood and the status of Jerusalem remaining central obstacles to a negotiated settlement.

Kipkorir concluded by pointing to the shared Semitic heritage of Israelis and Palestinians, arguing that their historical connections should strengthen the case for reconciliation rather than prolonged confrontation.
