American actor Bryshere Y. Gray, widely recognized for playing Hakeem Lyon in the hit television series Empire, has stunned Kenyan fans after revealing that he has a child in Kenya with a woman from Kiambu.
The actor made the surprise revelation during a June 2026 interview with Kenyan media personality Oga Obinna, where he opened up about his personal life, fatherhood, and unexpected ties to Kenya.
During the candid conversation, Bryshere Gray disclosed that he is a father of five children.
“I got five kids,” Gray said during the interview.
According to the actor, he has fathered five children with five different women across different countries. He said three of the children are in the United States while another child is in Ethiopia. The fifth child, he revealed, is in Kenya.
Bryshere Gray then shared more details about his Kenyan connection, revealing that the mother of his Kenyan child comes from Kiambu County.
During the conversation, he explained that the woman wants to move closer to Nairobi and specifically hopes they can settle in Kilimani, one of Nairobi’s most upscale residential neighborhoods.
However, the actor said he is not comfortable with that idea.
“She wants to move to Kilimani. I don’t want her near the clubs,” Gray said during the interview.
He then added that Nanyuki feels like a better option because of its quiet environment.
Bryshere Gray’s revelations come after months of the actor spending significant time in Kenya since arriving in March 2026. Since landing in Nairobi earlier this year, the former Empire star has become increasingly visible within Kenya’s entertainment industry.
Gray has been spotted at several popular entertainment spots including Black Samurai Lounge and Ashaki CBD, where he has attended high-profile nightlife events.
During his interview with Oga Obinna, the actor praised Nairobi’s nightlife culture, comparing it favorably to the United States.
“The club life is so electric,” he said.
Gray explained that unlike clubs in America where many people remain on their phones, Kenyan nightlife feels more energetic because people genuinely enjoy dancing and engaging with the music.
Beyond nightlife, Bryshere Gray appears to be building deeper connections within Kenya’s entertainment scene. The actor, who also performs music under the stage name Yazz The Greatest, has recently shown interest in collaborating with Kenyan musicians.
He recently teased fans by working on a remix connected to the hit song Siaka by Kenyan artist Mejja.
