MINNESOTA, United States – Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone’s eldest son, Abba Marcus Mayanja, has been arrested in Minnesota, United States, over an alleged domestic assault involving a family or household member.
Abba Marcus, 20, was taken into custody by the Edina Police Department on August 14, 2026, and booked on a misdemeanor domestic assault charge. He was subsequently held at a Hennepin County facility, with bail reportedly set at US$10,000, approximately Sh1.2 million.
The arrest has drawn attention in Uganda because of Abba Marcus’ connection to one of the country’s most prominent music families and because it comes amid renewed public scrutiny of his relationship with his pregnant girlfriend, Angel.
Abba Marcus’ arrest came shortly after he publicly announced that he and Angel had ended their relationship.
The couple had earlier shared their pregnancy journey on social media, with Angel revealing in April that she was expecting their first child. At the time, reports indicated that she was about 19 weeks pregnant.
Their relationship later became the subject of controversy after Angel accused Abba Marcus of cheating and physically abusing her.
Abba denied the allegations at the, insisting that he had not physically harmed her. He also dismissed the accusations during a public response to the controversy in May.
According to reporting on the arrest, Abba Marcus faces a misdemeanor domestic assault charge.
Minnesota law defines domestic assault as an assault against a family or household member involving either an act intended to cause the other person to fear immediate bodily harm or death, or the intentional infliction or attempted infliction of bodily harm.
Abba Marcus is expected to appear before a Minnesota court on Monday, August 17, 2026, following his arrest.
According to Pulse Uganda, the misdemeanor charge carries a maximum possible sentence of 90 days in jail and a US$1,000 fine if he is convicted.
The arrest follows months of turbulence in Abba Marcus and Angel’s relationship.
In May, Angel publicly accused him of physical abuse during a TikTok live session. Abba subsequently denied hitting her and rejected the allegations.
Abba Marcus Mayanja is the eldest son of Jose Chameleone and Daniella Atim.
He has spent much of his life between Uganda and the United States and has attracted public attention as a member of the Mayanja family, one of Uganda’s best-known entertainment families.
