
NAIROBI, Kenya — The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) and FIDA Kenya have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration on gender equality, access to justice and election preparedness ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The commitment was made during a courtesy meeting held on Thursday, July 16, led by LSK Vice President Tess Nicholas and FIDA Kenya Chairperson Christine Kungu.
According to LSK, the meeting sought to reinforce the longstanding partnership between the two legal institutions while identifying priority areas for joint action over the coming months.
Focus on Gender Justice and Legal Reforms
The discussions covered a wide range of issues affecting the legal profession and public interest, including:
- Preparations for the LSK Annual Conference Women’s Breakfast 2026.
- Membership engagement initiatives.
- Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Sexual Harassment (PSEAH).
- Kenya’s response to femicide and gender-based violence (GBV).
- Strategic public interest litigation.
- The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence campaign.
- Kenya’s 2026 CEDAW Committee Review.
- Review and nationwide sensitisation of the LSK Sexual Harassment and Anti-Bullying Policy (SHABP).
Preparing for the 2027 General Election
Election preparedness ahead of the 2027 General Election also featured prominently during the discussions, with the two organisations exploring opportunities to promote constitutionalism, the rule of law and the protection of fundamental rights during the electoral period.
The meeting underscored the legal profession’s role in safeguarding democratic processes and advancing accountability through legal advocacy and public interest litigation.

LSK said the engagement reaffirmed both institutions’ commitment to strengthening collaboration in advancing justice and protecting vulnerable groups.
In a statement, the society said the meeting reinforced a shared vision of promoting gender equality, improving access to justice, strengthening the legal profession and building partnerships that serve the public interest.
