Reigning Vurugu Fight Night champion Majembe has officially withdrawn from the upcoming Vurugu 2.0 boxing event, ending weeks of speculation over his participation in one of Kenya’s most anticipated celebrity boxing rematches.
The boxer announced his exit following a disagreement with event promoter Oga Obinna over contract terms and sponsorship obligations, marking a dramatic fallout between the two parties just months before the scheduled fight night.
According to Majembe, the dispute centered on conflicting sponsorship agreements that made it impossible for him to compete under the event’s revised commercial conditions.
He revealed that he maintains an exclusive endorsement deal with a maize flour company, which requires him to wear branded apparel and adhere to specific promotional guidelines. However, he stated that the terms set for Vurugu 2.0 clashed directly with his existing contract.
Majembe explained that attempts to resolve the issue failed after both sides could not agree on key commercial terms. He said the disagreement escalated into a breakdown in communication, ultimately forcing him to pull out of the event.
The boxer also claimed that communication between him and the promoter deteriorated during negotiations. He alleged that Oga Obinna blocked him on phone and social media platforms after discussions became tense, further complicating efforts to reach a resolution.
Majembe summarized the situation as a failure to agree, stating in a brief reflection that “kuna vile hatukusikizana,” meaning there was simply no mutual understanding between the two sides.
The withdrawal comes after weeks of growing speculation among fans, who noticed Majembe’s absence from official Vurugu 2.0 promotional posters. His omission sparked questions across social media, with many supporters demanding clarity from the organizers.
The announcement now confirms his exit, leaving a major gap in the fight card of an event that had already generated significant public interest following the success of the inaugural edition.
Majembe rose to fame after winning the first Vurugu Fight Night at Kasarani Indoor Arena, where he secured a technical knockout victory over Mbavu the Destroyer.
The match ended in dramatic fashion, with his opponent leaving the ring on a stretcher.
Following that victory, Majembe walked away with a lucrative prize package that included Sh 1 million in cash, a brand-new Toyota Voxy, a sports bike, and the championship belt, cementing his status as one of the standout figures in Kenya’s emerging celebrity boxing scene.
