NAIROBI, Kenya – American YouTuber MrBeast has gifted Kenyan content creator Geoffrey Mwamburi, popularly known as Duty Boy Stylish, a brand-new iPhone 17 Pro Max after the young creator lost his phone during an attack while filming in Nairobi.
The surprise gift brought together Duty Boy and international content creators in Ghana, where MrBeast and a group of creators were involved in a humanitarian project.
Australian content creator Samuel Weidenhofer, popularly known as ItsSozer, physically presented the new iPhone to Duty Boy. Weidenhofer said he and MrBeast decided to replace the phone after learning about the robbery and the creator’s ambitions.
“His phone was stolen, but MrBeast and I weren’t going to let that stop his dream. He’s from the slums, and his biggest goal is to get his mum out! So MrBeast and I got him a new iPhone,” Weidenhofer wrote in a post shared on September 19.
The gift came weeks after Duty Boy, 21, lost his iPhone 15 while filming a street challenge in Nairobi.
Duty Boy had been working on a challenge in which he attempted to survive on one Kenyan shilling when he and his camera operator ended up on the wrong street.
The situation turned violent after the pair encountered attackers who assaulted them and took their belongings, including Duty Boy’s iPhone 15. The attack left both Duty Boy and his camera operator injured, with the two seeking medical attention after the incident.
Duty Boy later explained that losing his phone created a major setback because the device served as one of his main tools for creating and publishing content. Before receiving the replacement from MrBeast and Weidenhofer, the creator continued working with an iPhone 11.
Weidenhofer shared the gift online while explaining why he and MrBeast decided to help. The Australian creator pointed to Duty Boy’s background and his ambition to improve his family’s circumstances through content creation.
Duty Boy has previously spoken about his desire to move out of Kibera and build a better life for his mother.
The creator has built his online following by openly documenting his life in Kibera and the challenges associated with growing up in the informal settlement.
His content has also included acts of kindness and efforts to support people within his community.
The iPhone surprise took place as Duty Boy joined the wider group of creators in Ghana.
Duty Boy had been selected among international creators for the 1 Billion Acts of Kindness campaign and the associated Ghana project. The initiative brought together creators from different countries to work alongside MrBeast on a community development project.
Weidenhofer later shared images from the Ghana project, describing the experience as building a village with MrBeast and other creators. His September 19 post tagged Duty Boy alongside several of the creators involved in the initiative.
The moment Duty Boy received the iPhone 17 Pro Max became emotional as he opened the box. The creator revealed that he had never owned a completely new phone before.
“You know I’ve never had a brand-new phone before,” Duty Boy said during the unboxing.
He later thanked MrBeast and the wider team for the opportunity.
“2 YouTubers 🎥 Forever grateful to @mrbeast and the entire team for allowing me to be part of something so meaningful,” Duty Boy wrote on Instagram.
He added: “Thank you for making kindness go viral and allowing me to be part of the team.”
