NAIROBI, Kenya — Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has directed agencies under the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration to fast-track the implementation of pending reforms aimed at strengthening national security, improving public service delivery and enhancing accountability across government institutions.
Murkomen issued the directive after chairing a consultative meeting with heads of directorates and agencies within the ministry, where officials reviewed the progress of ongoing reform programmes and agreed on measures to accelerate implementation.
The Cabinet Secretary said the reforms are intended to improve coordination among security agencies while bringing government services closer to citizens.
“We are implementing various measures to bolster national security, bring government services closer to the public, and step up the war on alcohol and substance abuse across the country,” Murkomen said.
He noted that the reforms are part of the government’s broader agenda to make public services more accessible, responsive and efficient while addressing emerging security challenges.
Murkomen also instructed senior officials to uphold the highest standards of accountability in implementing government programmes, emphasizing prudent management of public resources.
“I impressed upon the officers under the State Department for Internal Security and National Administration the need for strict compliance with all government policies, including the latest Cabinet directive to safeguard taxpayers’ money at all times,” he said.
The meeting also assessed the implementation status of recommendations contained in the Jukwaa la Usalama Report, a nationwide public engagement initiative that gathered citizens’ views on improving security and public administration.
According to Murkomen, the government is keen to ensure that the remaining recommendations are implemented without unnecessary delays.
“We discussed ways of fast-tracking the implementation of the pending reforms recommended in the Jukwaa la Usalama Report, among other people-facing measures,” he said.
Murkomen reiterated that effective implementation of the reforms will depend on strict adherence to government policies, efficient use of public resources, and continued cooperation among the various agencies charged with maintaining security and delivering essential public services.
