NAIROBI, Kenya —Electric mobility company Roam has teamed up with Keep It Cool (KIC) to roll out Africa’s first all-electric cold-chain food delivery network in what the partners view as a transformative step for how fresh food moves across Kenya.
The pilot kicks off with five Roam Air electric motorcycles integrated into KIC’s expanding ecosystem, which already delivers over 250,000 kilograms of fresh fish and produce weekly to more than 4,000 vendors and 40 supermarkets across the country.
“This partnership shows how clean transport can drive real impact reducing emissions, cutting costs, and strengthening local supply chains,” said Elijah Gakomo, Roam’s Sales Executive.
“Together, we’re proving that the future of logistics in Africa is electric, efficient, and built at home.”
KIC, whose network includes solar-powered cold rooms near key fishing ports, has already helped 5,600 fisherfolk increase their earnings by 15%, while reducing spoilage by 98%.
“Each year, we save nearly 400 tons of fish that would otherwise be discarded,” noted Abigail Gichigi, Operations Director at Keep It Cool.
“Electric delivery is the next frontier in scaling safe, affordable food distribution.”
