Roam Launches Second Generation Roam Air Electric Motorbike, Phases Out Original Model

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- E-mobility pioneer Roam has unveiled the second generation of its popular Roam Air electric motorbike, officially marking the end of production for the original model.

The launch reflects Roam’s commitment to addressing the evolving economic and practical needs of Kenya’s over three million boda boda riders.

The upgraded Roam Air has been optimized for enhanced performance, improved ergonomics, and better waterproofing, showcasing a strong focus on local innovation and manufacturing excellence.

The new model is one kilogram lighter than its predecessor, contributing to greater battery efficiency and smoother handling on the roads.

A standout feature in the updated version is the introduction of a lockable single-door battery compartment designed to reduce theft and simplify the battery swapping process, a major concern voiced by riders of the first generation motorbike.

Roam has also deepened its commitment to local production, increasing domestic manufacturing of key components to 36%.

These locally made parts include body panels, wire harnesses, connectors, the battery compartment, mechanical auxiliaries, and storage units.

The move is expected to streamline supply chains, lower maintenance costs, and boost Kenya’s clean-tech manufacturing sector by creating new jobs.

“We didn’t just update a few features we completely rethought the motorcycle with input from the people who use it every day,” said Roam Production Manager Monicah Mwalo.

“This version is grounded in Kenyan realities.”

The new Roam Air can travel upwards of 120 kilometers on a single charge, offering boda boda riders greater range and reliability as Kenya accelerates toward sustainable urban mobility.
