Kenyan culinary content creator Dennis Ombachi, popularly known as The Roaming Chef, has added another high-profile collaboration to his growing list after teaming up with Nigerian Afropop star Yemi Alade.
Known across Africa as “Mama Africa,” Yemi Alade traded the microphone for kitchen duties as she joined Ombachi in preparing some of Kenya’s most recognizable dishes.
The cooking session introduced the Nigerian singer to traditional Kenyan flavors while giving fans an opportunity to watch a lighter and more personal side of the artist away from performances and music stages.
Together, they prepared a hearty menu that included Beef Tumbukiza, Mutura served with Kachumbari, and freshly cooked Ugali.
The meal reflected foods that many Kenyans consider staples and comfort dishes while also creating a cultural exchange through cooking.
One of the standout dishes prepared during the session was Beef Tumbukiza, a rich one-pot Kenyan beef stew known for its deep flavors and slow-cooked preparation style.
The dish typically combines beef with fresh vegetables and seasoning, allowing ingredients to simmer gradually until the flavors fully develop.
The duo also prepared Mutura, one of Kenya’s most recognizable street foods.
Often regarded as a delicacy by many local food lovers, Mutura carries a strong cultural identity and has become a common feature in social gatherings and street food experiences across different regions of Kenya.
To accompany the sausage dish, they added Kachumbari, a fresh tomato and onion salad that brings a refreshing balance to heavier meals.
The addition of the salad introduced a lighter element to the menu while maintaining the authenticity of the Kenyan dining experience.
However, one of the most entertaining moments from the collaboration came when Yemi Alade stepped into an unexpected role.
Instead of leaving local dishes entirely to her Kenyan host, the singer took charge of preparing Ugali.
Ugali remains one of East Africa’s most popular staple foods and frequently accompanies dishes such as beef stew, vegetables and grilled meats.
Watching the Nigerian superstar confidently take the lead on the preparation created an interesting crossover moment that blended culture with entertainment.
The scene highlighted not only the fun side of the collaboration but also Yemi’s willingness to immerse herself in local experiences.
The singer has long positioned herself as a champion of African culture and identity.
Through her music, fashion and international appearances, she has frequently embraced African diversity and celebrated experiences that connect people across the continent.
