Ruto Awarded Kazakhstan’s Highest State Honour

Date:

ASTANA, Kazakhstan — President William Ruto has been awarded Kazakhstan’s prestigious Order of Dostyk, First Degree, during his official State Visit to the Central Asian nation.

The honour was conferred by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during a ceremony held in Astana, marking a significant diplomatic moment in relations between Kenya and Kazakhstan.

The Order of Dostyk is among Kazakhstan’s highest state honours and is awarded to leaders who demonstrate exceptional international cooperation, strategic partnership, and efforts that strengthen global relations.

Speaking after receiving the award, Ruto described the honour as a reflection of the growing friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

“I am deeply humbled and profoundly honoured to receive the Order of Dostyk, First Degree, one of the highest distinctions of your great nation,” President Ruto said.

“This award is not only a personal recognition but a luminous symbol of the enduring friendship between Kenya and Kazakhstan.”

Push for Stronger Economic Cooperation

The two leaders later held bilateral talks focused on expanding trade, investment, and diplomatic cooperation between East Africa and Central Asia.

According to the Kenyan presidency, the discussions explored ways of positioning Kenya and Kazakhstan as strategic gateways to their respective regions.

The talks also focused on increasing market access for Kenyan exports, particularly tea and agricultural products.

The President said the partnership reflected a shared commitment to peace, economic cooperation, and cultural exchange.

“It reflects our shared commitment to peace, cooperation, and the enrichment of cultures across continents,” he said.

Multiple Agreements Signed

The State Visit also resulted in the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding aimed at deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.

The agreements covered trade, transport, mining, information and communication technology, tourism, investment promotion, commerce, and financial services.

Kenya and Kazakhstan also signed cooperation agreements on space technology, with both countries seeking to use satellite systems to support agriculture, climate monitoring, and disaster management.

In the mining sector, the two governments pledged to support investment and value addition initiatives aimed at job creation and industrial growth.

Transport and logistics cooperation also featured prominently, with discussions centering on improving cargo connectivity and facilitating trade routes between Africa and Central Asia.

Diplomatic Milestone

President Ruto’s visit marks one of the highest-level engagements between Kenya and Kazakhstan in recent years as Nairobi continues to expand diplomatic and economic partnerships beyond traditional allies.

The Kenyan government has increasingly pursued trade diversification and new investment opportunities across Asia, the Middle East, and emerging markets.

The award further elevates Kenya’s diplomatic profile in Central Asia at a time when both countries are seeking stronger South-South cooperation and broader economic partnerships.

President Ruto said he accepted the honour on behalf of the Kenyan people.

“I accept this honour on behalf of the people of Kenya, who stand with the people of Kazakhstan in the pursuit of harmony and prosperity,” he stated.
