Uganda’s celebrated dance sensation, Triplets Ghetto Kids, is set to achieve another historic milestone after receiving an invitation from global music superstar Shakira to perform during the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final halftime show.
The announcement marks a major moment not only for the dance group but also for Uganda and Africa’s entertainment industry as a whole, with the young performers preparing to take their talents onto one of the world’s biggest sporting stages.
“I have already invited the Ghetto Kids from Uganda, but I would really like to see all of your creations and your videos, so keep sending them because I am going to be watching all of them, ” she said.
The highly anticipated performance is scheduled for July 19, 2026, during the FIFA World Cup Final at the iconic MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
The event is expected to attract hundreds of millions of viewers globally as football fans tune in for the tournament’s grand finale.
Shakira confirmed the news through an official message shared on her social media platforms, revealing that the Ugandan dancers had been selected following the overwhelming online response to their choreography for “Dai Dai,” the official World Cup song.
The group’s energetic interpretation of the track quickly gained momentum online, drawing attention from audiences beyond Africa and eventually reaching the singer herself.
However, the Ugandan group may not be alone on stage.
Shakira is continuing a global search for additional creators and performers from different countries to participate in the halftime production.
The group consists of children from difficult backgrounds, including orphans and vulnerable youth raised and mentored under founder Daouda Kavuma in Katwe, a densely populated area in Kampala.
Over the years, what started as a local initiative has evolved into a globally recognized movement.
Triplets Ghetto Kids first captured international curiosity in 2014 after appearing in Eddy Kenzo’s hit music video for Sitya Loss.
Their profile rose even further in 2017 after appearing in French Montana’s massively successful music video for Unforgettable.
The video became a worldwide sensation and pushed the dancers into mainstream international recognition, exposing millions of viewers to their talent.
In 2022, they achieved another significant career milestone after becoming the first Ugandan children’s dance group selected to perform at events surrounding the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
A year later, the group reached yet another major landmark after appearing on Britain’s Got Talent in 2023, where they received a historic mid-performance Golden Buzzer moment that stunned audiences and judges alike.
Members of the group described the selection as a “dream come true for Uganda and Africa,” emphasizing that the opportunity belongs not only to them but to an entire continent that continues to push its creative talent onto global stages.
