“Si Kazi Rahisi”: Ruto Defends Broad-Based Government as Key to Unity

Date:

KISII, Kenya — President William Ruto has defended the formation of the broad-based government, describing it as a deliberate strategy to unify the country and accelerate development, even as political debate over the arrangement continues to intensify.

Speaking at Kisii State Lodge during a meeting with grassroots leaders from Kisii and Nyamira counties, the Head of State said the leadership pact was designed to ensure inclusivity and prevent marginalisation of any region.

“I urge you that we collaborate and work together. When we formed the broad-based government, it was not a mistake, it was deliberate because we want to make sure that no Kenyan is left behind,” Ruto said.

He added that national unity remains central to his administration’s agenda, linking it directly to the pace and success of development programmes.

“This country depends on all of us. Do not underestimate what you can do in pursuit of change in our country. I am not doing an easy job, but it is in my heart to change the country,” he stated.

The President’s remarks come amid ongoing national discourse on the structure and political implications of the broad-based government, which has seen cooperation across traditional political divides.

During the meeting, Ruto outlined a series of development projects targeting the Gusii region, pledging that Kisii and Nyamira would benefit significantly from ongoing state investments. He announced that the government is committing Sh27 billion towards affordable housing, market infrastructure, and other development initiatives in Kisii County alone.

“I assure you that your counties will not be left behind. There is enough for all of us. We are now investing Sh27 billion in Kisii for Affordable Housing, markets and other projects,” he said.

Among the flagship projects is the construction of an international-standard stadium in Kisii, which the President said will cost Sh900 million and is expected to be completed within nine months.

In addition, Ruto revealed plans to expand Kisii Airport, including the construction of a new terminal building, as part of efforts to enhance regional connectivity and unlock economic potential.

The development tour, which spans four days across Kisii and Nyamira counties, will also see the launch of key road and market projects aimed at improving trade and mobility in the region.

“If we go with the plan we have, Kenya will be a first-world country,” Ruto said.
