NAIROBI, Kenya — Detectives have arrested six suspects and rescued three Indian nationals who were allegedly held incommunicado in a house in Ruiru, Kiambu County, in a suspected human trafficking case.
The three Indian nationals arrived in Kenya on August 5, 2026, and were reported missing after leaving Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Detectives from the Operations Support Unit (OSU) traced them to a two-bedroom house in Fort Jesus area of Ruiru following intelligence-led investigations.
Preliminary investigations established that the three were cleared at JKIA before leaving the airport in a taxi allegedly arranged by their receiver, who was reportedly waiting for them in Ruiru.
They were subsequently taken to the house, where investigators said they were allegedly held incommunicado.
The six suspects arrested in connection with the case include Avtar Singh, an Indian national; Ali Khashif and Syed Shujaat Hussein, both Pakistani nationals; and Kenyans Stephen Karomo and Damaris Katulu Daudi.
A Kenyan minor, who investigators said was allegedly working as a house help, was also found at the premises.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly claimed they were helping the three Indian nationals travel to Italy through Ethiopia.
However, detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the trio’s movement from JKIA to Ruiru and their subsequent confinement as they seek to establish whether the suspects were part of a wider human trafficking network.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations said investigations remain ongoing to identify other possible accomplices and determine the full extent of the suspects’ activities.
The six suspects are being processed for arraignment as detectives continue with the inquiry.
