Vindee’s Protest Livestream Ends Abruptly After Arrest by Authorities

Kenyan digital creator and livestreamer Vindee has sparked widespread online outrage after plain-clothed police officers forcefully arrested him while he was broadcasting live during the June 25 anniversary protests in Nairobi.

The dramatic incident unfolded in the heart of the Nairobi Central Business District as demonstrators gathered to mark the first anniversary of the historic June 25, 2024 Gen Z-led protests, a movement that became one of Kenya’s defining youth-led moments after mass demonstrations erupted over controversial tax proposals and broader frustrations over governance.

Vindee, who has built a growing online audience through street coverage, livestream commentary, and digital reporting on trending national conversations, was actively documenting events in Nairobi’s streets.

However, his livestream suddenly turned chaotic after plain-clothed officers moved in and detained him in full view of both protesters and thousands of viewers watching online.

Video footage circulating widely online, captured the exact moment one of the officers aggressively brought Vindee down from behind while he continued filming.

Following Vindee’s forceful removal from the scene, another unidentified individual reportedly grabbed the phone and briefly continued the active livestream, allowing viewers to witness the immediate aftermath before the broadcast eventually ended.

The June 25 protests themselves carried heavy national significance.

Authorities had deployed heavy security presence across Nairobi ahead of the anniversary protests.

As clips of the arrest continue spreading online, pressure is growing for authorities to explain the circumstances surrounding Vindee’s detention and clarify whether any charges have been filed against him.
