Winnie Odinga marked Mother’s Day 2026 in a deeply symbolic and inspiring way after spending the special occasion with her mother Ida Odinga and celebrated African humanitarian and former Mozambique First Lady Graça Machel.

The daughter of veteran Kenyan politician Raila Odinga took to social media to share heartfelt photos and a touching message reflecting on the significance of being surrounded by two influential African women she described as “mothers of nations.”

In her tribute, Winnie expressed admiration for both Ida Odinga and Graça Machel, highlighting their impact not only within their families but across the African continent through leadership, mentorship and service.

“Mothers day with not one, but two mothers of nations,” Winnie wrote.

“Spent the day sandwiched between my forever First Lady, Mama Ida Odinga and Africa’s own Mama Graça Machel. When women this powerful are in one room, you simply sit, smile, absorb and receive blessings.”

She concluded her message by extending Mother’s Day wishes to women everywhere.

“Happy Mother’s Day to every woman raising homes, communities and continents.”

Ida Odinga has long been regarded as one of Kenya’s most influential political spouses. Beyond her role as Raila Odinga’s wife, she has built her own reputation as an educator, activist and advocate for women and children.

Over the years, she has remained a strong presence in Kenya’s political and social landscape, often championing education and community empowerment initiatives.

Graça Machel, on the other hand, is globally respected for her humanitarian work and advocacy for women’s and children’s rights.

The Mozambican stateswoman holds a unique place in African history, having been married to two African presidents — Samora Machel of Mozambique and later South African anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela.

Throughout her decades-long career, Graça Machel has been recognized internationally for her efforts in education, child welfare and social justice, making her one of Africa’s most celebrated female leaders.

Winnie herself has increasingly carved out her own public identity in recent years, balancing political involvement with advocacy and youth engagement.

As the youngest daughter of Raila and Ida Odinga, she has remained vocal on governance, youth empowerment and social justice issues, often attracting attention for her candid online presence.
