NAIROBI, Kenya- Kenya’s ride-hailing sector has been defined by rising fuel costs, driver protests, fare disputes and calls for government intervention in 2026.
Now, Bingo Technologies is introducing a new solution aimed directly at the cost pressures facing drivers: the Bingo E2, Kenya’s first dual-battery electric vehicle.
The vehicle was unveiled in Nairobi on Tuesday before industry partners, government representatives, media and investors, in a city where the ride-hailing market handles an estimated 500,000 rides daily through more than 50,000 drivers.
Behind the Bingo E2 is a team with experience building large-scale mobility infrastructure.
Bingo Technologies CEO Daniel Huang previously developed and expanded battery-swap networks across 50 cities, supporting more than 500,000 daily battery swaps before bringing that expertise to Kenya’s ride-hailing economy.
“The E2 was built for one person: the driver who works hard every day and deserves to own what he drives, and Nairobi is where that promise becomes real,” said Huang.
A vehicle built around driver realities
The Bingo E2 combines a fixed onboard battery with a swappable battery system, providing drivers with up to 440 kilometres of range while reducing reliance on traditional charging infrastructure.
The vehicle eliminates petrol and diesel costs for daily operations, running on Kenya’s electricity grid, which is powered by approximately 90 per cent renewable energy.
Fuel costs have been among the biggest concerns driving this year’s ride-hailing protests and fare disputes. Rather than offering temporary relief, Bingo Technologies says the E2 removes fuel dependency from the operating model altogether.
“The Bingo E2 is underpinned by the most lucrative commercial offering to investors, fleet owners, and drivers of any similar platform in the market. This vehicle is designed to not just be an automotive success, but a commercial juggernaut,” said Kevin Simmons, Commercial Advisor.

More than just an electric vehicle
The Bingo E2 is supported by MAYA, Bingo Technologies’ artificial intelligence-powered mobility platform, and comes with an ecosystem covering financing, insurance and after-sales support.
Partners supporting the launch include NCBA on financing, Cannon Insurance’s General Manager Wancy Lumosi on insurance solutions, and Peach’s Zac Petroni, who is supporting the vehicle buyback and resale model designed to strengthen ownership opportunities.
The vehicle also features an integrated camera and safety system, a feature expected to appeal especially to women drivers who have raised concerns that fare adjustments alone do not address the wider challenges of working on ride-hailing platforms.
The launch brought together key players from Kenya’s mobility ecosystem, including representatives from Uber, Bolt and Little, alongside Watu, M-KOPA and the Electric Mobility Association of Kenya (EMAK).
“Kenya is one of the most exciting e-mobility markets in the world, with over 90% renewable electricity and a strong need to reduce transport costs. We warmly welcome Bingo to Kenya and congratulate the team on the launch of the Bingo E2, particularly the level of innovation and digital technology, including the AI assistant, Maya, integrated into the product,” said Moses Nderitu on behalf of EMAK.
“We look forward to seeing Bingo begin deliveries in Q4, progress toward local assembly, and become an active member of the Electric Mobility Association of Kenya,” he added.
Creating a pathway to ownership
Bingo Technologies says the E2 is designed around a lease-to-own model aimed at helping more drivers transition from daily income earners to vehicle owners.
“The Bingo E2 is a practical solution designed with the everyday Kenyan driver in mind. By combining affordable running costs with an innovative lease-to-own model, Bingo is creating an opportunity for more drivers to transition to electric mobility and work towards owning their own vehicle,” said Brian Kipchumba, Fleet Owner.

Thaiya Waronja, CEO of Anamoly Ltd, said the company plans to introduce the E2 into its fleet operations on platforms including Uber and Bolt.
“The Bingo E2 is a fantastic addition to the Kenyan market. At Anamoly Ltd, we are coming on board as a fleet operator, starting with an initial fleet on platforms such as Uber and Bolt. It is well designed and practical, and we see strong potential in what it can bring to Kenya’s growing mobility sector,” said Waronja.
Bingo Technologies COO Christian Scheder said the company’s focus now moves beyond launching the vehicle to building the wider ecosystem required to support electric mobility adoption.
“Launching a vehicle is the easy part; our job now is delivering the ecosystem around it, energy infrastructure, financing partnerships, and service networks, so that every driver who takes the wheel of an E2 has a clear path to ownership,” said Scheder.

A public driver and operator experience day will take place on Wednesday, 29 July, at Delta40, where drivers, operators and members of the public will have an opportunity to view the Bingo E2, with limited test drive slots available.
Bingo Technologies develops electric mobility ecosystems for emerging markets, starting with online taxi and last-mile delivery sectors in Kenya.
