SportPesa CEO Promises Mosiria ‘Real Job’ After Sakaja Dismissal

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – SportPesa Chief Executive Officer and Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri has offered Geoffrey Mosiria a job after being fired from City Hall.

Karauri made the offer on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, following Governor Johnson Sakaja’s decision to remove Mosiria from his position as Chief Officer for Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service.

The legislator promised to give Mosiria what he described as a genuine job with actual responsibilities, suggesting that the county official had been sidelined under the current administration.

“Mosiria, usijali bro, 2027 nikiingia City Hall kama Governor wa Nairobi, nitakuandikia kazi,” Karauri said.

Translated from Swahili, Karauri told Mosiria not to worry because he would give him a job if he entered City Hall as Nairobi governor in 2027.

He did not specify the position he would offer Mosiria or outline the responsibilities attached to it. His promise remains conditional on his success in the gubernatorial election.

Karauri added: “Kazi ya kweli, sio ile ya kukaa ofisi bila responsibilities since 2023.”

The remark translates to a promise of a “real job”, rather than one where an employee sits in an office without responsibilities, as Karauri claimed had happened to Mosiria since 2023.

Karauri also questioned the circumstances surrounding Mosiria’s removal, using the official’s public participation portfolio to make a pointed observation about the decision.

“Imagine being the Chief Officer wa Public Participation, then unafutwa kazi kwa ku-participate,” he said.

The statement translates to an observation that Mosiria had served as Chief Officer for Public Participation only to lose his job for participating.

Karauri further invoked a Swahili proverb to describe what he appeared to view as the circumstances surrounding the dismissal.

“Fisi akitaka kula watoto wake, kwanza huwasingizia wananuka mbuzi,” he said.

The proverb means that when a hyena wants to eat its own young, it first accuses them of smelling like goats. Karauri did not name anyone in the proverb, but his comments came amid growing political tensions at City Hall following Mosiria’s removal.

The offer also places Karauri, who represents Kasarani in Parliament, alongside other political figures positioning themselves for the Nairobi governor’s seat ahead of the 2027 elections.

Nairobi County announced Mosiria’s removal in a circular dated October 21, 2026, signed by County Secretary and Head of Public Service Machel Waikenda.

The notice designated Zipporah Njeri Mwangi, the Chief Officer for City Culture, Arts and Tourism, to take over the public participation, citizen engagement and customer service docket in an acting capacity.

Mwangi will retain her existing responsibilities while handling the additional role. The circular also announced changes affecting other county chief officers and stated that the reassignments would take effect immediately.

The notice cited sections 44(3)(a), 45(5) and 64 of the County Governments Act, 2012, as the legal basis for the changes. It did not state a specific reason for Mosiria’s removal.

The decision came ten days after Mosiria announced his intention to contest the Nairobi governorship in the 2027 General Election.

During a church service hosted by Bishop Margaret Wanjiru on October 11, Mosiria presented himself as a candidate capable of improving the capital’s administration and services.

“If you want change in Nairobi, Mosiria is the change. Mosiria will fix Nairobi,” he said during the announcement.

Following his removal, Mosiria claimed that Sakaja had effectively stripped him of key responsibilities long before the formal decision.

In a statement, Mosiria alleged that the governor took away his mandate as an accounting officer on December 28, 2023, and transferred the responsibilities to junior officers.

He also claimed that the budget for his former health docket fell from Sh1.2 billion to Sh100 million. Mosiria linked the alleged changes to disagreements over procurement arrangements and the management of public funds.

“Thank you, my boss, for making my sacking official,” Mosiria wrote in his response.

Mosiria previously served in the county’s health department before moving to the environment docket in 2024. He took up the public participation, citizen engagement and customer service role in November 2025.

His work in the environment department, particularly operations targeting illegal dumping and noise pollution, helped raise his public profile through videos shared on social media.
