NAIROBI, Kenya- In a significant move to enhance cultural exchange and promote the creative industries, Kenya and China have signed pivotal Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) aimed at promoting film and theatre in both countries.
The event, themed “Kenya, China TV Theatre,” marked a new chapter in bilateral relations with the participation of key representatives from both nations.
The ceremony featured notable figures, including Dong Xin, Deputy Minister of the National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) of China; Timothy Owase, CEO of Kenya Film Commission; and CPA Pascal Opiyo, CEO of Kenya Film and Classification Board.
This initiative underscores the shared commitment to fostering cultural exchange and professional collaboration.
Jimmy Carter Luo, Chief Executive Officer of StarTimes Media (Ke) Ltd, expressed his excitement about the partnership’s potential.
“Kenya, China TV Theatre will pave the way for joint productions, content sharing, and professional exchanges between Kenyan and Chinese media entities,” he said.
Carter emphasized that this collaboration is essential for advancing creative industries, offering a platform for knowledge exchange, technological innovation, and cultural enrichment.
Dong Xin highlighted the importance of this partnership in strengthening the audiovisual sector.
“This event marks a new chapter in our bilateral relations, particularly in media and entertainment. We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Kenya to foster cultural exchange and mutual development,” he stated.
Timothy Owase noted the profound impact this collaboration will have on Kenya’s film industry.
“We are greatly humbled by this partnership between Kenya and China in the field of film and theatre, and we will continue pushing for our youths to get job opportunities in the film and art industry,” he said.
