
NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto’s Cabinet has approved several multi-billion-shilling projects targeting the judiciary, healthcare, water, roads and industrialisation as part of a broader infrastructure and public service expansion programme.
Among the flagship approvals is the Sh26 billion Judicial Performance Improvement Project Phase II, to be implemented in partnership with the World Bank.
The project will finance construction of a new Supreme Court complex, a dedicated Court of Appeal building, a Judiciary Administration complex and a modern Kenya Judiciary Academy.
Cabinet also approved an additional Sh16.6 billion to complete the Mwache Multipurpose Dam in Kwale County.
Once completed, the dam is expected to supply 186,000 cubic metres of water daily to Mombasa and Kwale counties, easing chronic water shortages and supporting households, agriculture and industry.
In healthcare, ministers endorsed the Kenya–United States Health Cooperation Framework, which will support Kenya’s efforts to combat HIV, tuberculosis, malaria and emerging diseases while facilitating the gradual integration of more than 13,000 US-supported frontline health workers into the public health system.
Cabinet also approved the Sh4.5 billion Mother-and-Child Lifeline Initiative, which will establish ten Level Four and Level Five maternal hospitals across the country in partnership with Amsons Group.
The programme will complement the Sh7.8 billion Kenya–Austria Mother and Child – Our Future Project, which aims to modernise maternal and neonatal services at Kenyatta National Hospital.
The meeting further approved financing for key sections of the Isiolo–Mandera road corridor, endorsed petroleum cooperation agreements with Rwanda and South Sudan, adopted policies to revitalise Kenya’s leather and textile industries and approved new measures to strengthen protection against gender-based violence and support vulnerable families.
