NAIROBI, Kenya — Staff from the Kenya Meteorological Department are participating in a high-level virtual meeting convened by Felix Koskei, aimed at strengthening coordination across government institutions on climate, environmental, and development priorities.
The session, led by Acting Director General Edward Muriuki, has brought together teams from the meteorological department alongside officials from the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry and affiliated agencies, creating a unified platform for engagement and policy alignment.
According to the department, the discussions are focused on enhancing efficiency in public service delivery, improving inter-agency collaboration, and reinforcing a whole-of-government approach to tackling climate-related challenges.
Participants are also contributing to strategies aimed at strengthening institutional coordination, particularly as Kenya faces increasing climate variability, extreme weather events, and environmental pressures linked to global climate change.
“The session has brought together leadership, administrative teams, and staff… providing a unified platform for engagement, collaboration, and alignment on key national priorities,” the department said in a statement.
The meeting underscores growing emphasis within government on integrated responses to climate and environmental issues, with agencies expected to work more closely in delivering data-driven solutions and timely interventions.
Kenya has in recent years intensified its focus on climate resilience, with institutions such as the meteorological department playing a critical role in early warning systems, weather forecasting, and supporting sectors like agriculture, disaster management, and infrastructure planning.
Officials say the ongoing engagement reflects a broader commitment to accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement in public service, as the government seeks to streamline operations and enhance responsiveness to emerging national challenges.
The outcomes of the meeting are expected to inform future policy coordination and strengthen the implementation of climate and environmental programmes across ministries and agencies.
