NAIROBI, Kenya — Media personality Oga Obinna has doubled down on his decision to take boxers Majembe and Mbavu Destroyer to State House, dismissing critics who have politicized the move.

Responding to a wave of online backlash, Obinna took to social media maintained that the move is not political and stating he would only declare his political support during the official 2027 general election campaigns.

“Babu kwa sababu. Mimi ndio Sifuna. Period. “Statehouse nayo tunaenda wapende wasipende.. Boxers wapewe zao maisha iendelee. Na wakati pia ukifika wa campaign ntakuja tu wazi wazina niamue ni mrengo upi ntaufuata, mtulie ntawapanga,” he wrote.

Obinna labeled the criticism as “pure envy” (wivu), arguing that many of those complaining have done little to improve lives in Kenya.

He defended the visit as a necessary step to highlight the dire conditions facing local boxers, who he claims are often paid as little as Sh1,000 to Sh10,000 per fight.

“Jealousy will prevent these boxers from getting real help because some of you think everything is political,” Obinna retorted.

He pointed out the double standard in public reaction, noting that government support for footballers was met with praise, not hostility.

Unfazed by threats of a boycott or a drop in followers, Obinna maintained that his critics are simply upset he achieved what they couldn’t.

The planned State House visit is a direct response to the massive success of the Vurugu Fight Night held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

Organized by Obinna, the event transformed a viral TikTok rivalry into a national spectacle that drew thousands of fans to the arena and millions more to online streams.

The main event featured Majembe (Portifas Odipo), a technical fighter from Manyatta, Kisumu, against Mbavu Destroyer (Ferdinand Omondi), a fan favorite from Nairobi’s Eastlands known for his “weka mawe” tagline.

Majembe emerged victorious via a Technical Knockout (TKO) in the fourth round, following a controversial body shot that left Mbavu unable to continue.
