NAIROBI, Kenya — Attorney General Dorcas Oduor has announced the rollout of Public Trustee services on the eCitizen platform, marking a shift toward digital access to estate and trust administration services.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Office of the Attorney General said the initiative begins with the Nairobi Public Trustee Office and aims to improve access to justice and enhance service delivery through digital transformation.
“The Office of the Attorney General has today announced the rollout of access to Public Trustee services in the Nairobi Office through the eCitizen platform. This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing access to justice and improving service delivery through digital transformation,” the statement read.
The Public Trustee operates under the Attorney General’s Office and manages the estates of deceased persons where executors are unavailable.
The office also handles trusts and property belonging to minors and persons with mental disabilities, including individuals unable to make decisions due to age, infirmity, or other limitations.
Officials said services now available on the platform include administration of estates of deceased persons, management of trusts for minors and persons living with mental disabilities, and handling of compensation funds forwarded by insurance companies following accidents.
The Attorney General’s office said the digitisation will streamline processes such as identifying beneficiaries, collecting assets, and managing property under trusteeship.

“Consequently, with effect from April 8, all applications for service delivery to the Public Trustee Nairobi Office shall be done exclusively through the eCitizen portal,” the statement added.
Authorities said the move will enable real-time access to information while reducing the cost of obtaining services.
The transition is also expected to improve access for people outside Nairobi who previously had to travel to the capital to process applications.
“Access to Public Trustee services through the platform will facilitate real-time access to information and reduce the cost of access to services by all persons, including those residing in remote areas, who can now conveniently access services without the need to travel to Nairobi,” the statement said.
The rollout forms part of broader government efforts to digitise public services and reduce paperwork in state offices.
Oduor called on stakeholders and members of the public to embrace the changes as part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving efficiency and transparency in public administration.
Officials indicated that the Nairobi rollout will serve as a pilot before possible expansion of the service to other regions across the country.
