KIRINYAGA, Kenya – Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has shared an emotional message after celebrating the traditional marriage ceremony of her son, Ian, and his partner Joanne.

The governor expressed gratitude and joy following the successful Ruracio and Ngurario ceremony, a significant milestone in Kikuyu culture that formally unites two families ahead of marriage.

In a heartfelt message, Waiguru described the occasion as a cherished blessing, saying witnessing the couple take the next step in their relationship filled her with pride and hope.

“My heart is filled with gratitude and joy as we celebrated the beautiful Ruracio and Ngurario ceremony of our son, Ian, and Joanne,” she said.

The county boss noted that seeing the love, commitment and happiness shared by the couple was one of the most rewarding moments for her as a mother.

“As a mother, witnessing this important milestone in your journey together was a truly cherished blessing. Seeing the love, commitment and happiness you share fills me with great pride and hope for the future that lies ahead for both of you,” she added.

Waiguru congratulated the couple and wished them a future grounded in faith, love, mutual respect and understanding.

“May your relationship continue to be anchored in faith, love, mutual respect and understanding. May God guide your path, strengthen your bond, and bless you abundantly in the days ahead,” she said.

The traditional ceremony brought together family members, relatives and close friends to celebrate the union, reflecting the importance of culture and family values in Kenyan society.

Ruracio, commonly known as the dowry negotiation ceremony, and Ngurario, a traditional Kikuyu wedding rite, remain key cultural milestones that symbolize commitment, unity and the formal joining of families.

Waiguru concluded her message by offering prayers for the couple, expressing hope for a lifetime of happiness and togetherness as they begin a new chapter in their lives.

The celebration comes as many Kenyan leaders continue to embrace and preserve cultural traditions while marking important family milestones.
