NAIROBI, Kenya- The body of a 32-year-old woman has been discovered inside her house in Lavington, Nairobi, approximately one month after she died.
Mercy Maina Wachinga’s body was found in an advanced state of decomposition after neighbours and other residents became concerned about her prolonged absence.
According to an NTV Kenya report, Wachinga was last seen speaking to residents of the apartment complex before she retreated to her house.
Her body remained inside the residence unnoticed for several weeks before it was discovered.
“I called the apartment owner after I was informed of a foul smell coming from the house,” Musa Kombo, a manager at For Homes apartment, said.
Preliminary reports indicate that police found a note inside the house believed to have been written by Wachinga.
The note contained personal information that investigators believe could help establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
Police are treating the death as a suspected suicide, but investigations are continuing.
The contents of the note have not been publicly disclosed.
The body was moved to a Nairobi mortuary for a post-mortem examination and further identification procedures.
Investigators are also expected to speak to relatives, neighbours and the management of the apartment complex.
Authorities had not announced evidence of third-party involvement by the time of publication.
Detectives at Muthangari police station are investigating.
If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, seek immediate help from a trusted person, mental-health professional or the nearest hospital.
