NAIROBI, Kenya – Police have seized 187 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa valued at an estimated Sh5.6 million and arrested three suspects in Ruai, Nairobi.
Officers from Obama Police Station recovered the narcotics during a routine foot patrol within the station’s jurisdiction.
The operation began after officers intercepted two 17-year-old Ugandan nationals, who police said were found in possession of Cannabis Sativa.
Juveniles Lead Police to Ruai House
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the two teenagers were questioned after their arrest and subsequently led officers to a house in Ruai.
Police searched the premises and recovered the larger consignment of bhang.
A 33-year-old woman, identified as Susan Omondi, was arrested at the house.
The woman and the two juveniles were taken into custody pending further legal proceedings.
187kg Narcotics Secured as Exhibits
The DCI said the recovered Cannabis Sativa, estimated to have a street value of Sh5.6 million, has been secured as an exhibit.
The seizure represents a significant disruption of an alleged narcotics supply chain operating in the area.
The circumstances surrounding the ownership and intended distribution of the drugs will be subject to the ongoing investigation and court process.
DCI Steps Up War on Drug Trafficking
The arrest comes as law enforcement agencies continue operations targeting the trafficking and distribution of narcotics across the country.
The DCI said it remains committed to disrupting drug-trafficking networks, dismantling illicit supply chains and protecting communities from the effects of narcotics.
The three suspects remain in custody as police prepare the case for court.
Because two of those arrested are minors, their identities are withheld in accordance with child-protection principles.
