Media personality Ciku Muiruri says she was assaulted during an early-morning raid at her family’s property in Thika, where she says a group of men forced their way into her home amid a longstanding land dispute.
In a livestream on Wednesday, Muiruri said more than 100 men entered the property.
She said she was alone in the house during the incident and handed over her laptop, phone and cash after the intruders demanded her belongings.
Muiruri said a police officer was at the scene and later accompanied her back into the house as she looked for her car keys.
She said that after the officer left, one of the men struck her several times on the head with a crowbar, including around her eye.
She said the assault left her with injuries to her eye and head.
Muiruri also recounted fearing sexual assault after some of the men tried to remove her clothes.
The attack took place at the Muiruri family’s property in Thika, Kiambu County.
Muiruri links the incident to a land dispute involving the family and Floriculture Ltd, which she says has lasted for decades.
Muiruri questions police response
Muiruri has accused senior police officers in Thika of failing to enforce court orders related to the dispute.
In a statement dated October 21, she said a man she had identified as her attacker was still on the property and that no arrest had been made at the time.
She said she had obtained a P3 medical form and identified the man she believes assaulted her.
A P3 form records injuries for use in a police investigation and possible court proceedings.
Muiruri also said that an order suspending the eviction had been served on police officers on the day of the attack.
The dispute involves a property that has been the subject of proceedings before the Business Premises Rent Tribunal, according to published reports.
