NAIROBI, Kenya – The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has dismissed a trending poster suggesting that a recently arrested woman had been released on bond, terming it false and misleading as the suspect remains in custody and is facing court proceedings.
In a statement posted on social media, the agency issued a sharp rebuttal, writing: “FAKE NEWS. The suspect was arrested and was not released on bond. She was processed and is appearing before the Kahawa Law Courts this morning.”
The clarification comes amid heightened public attention following the arrest of a suspect linked to a viral video that authorities say contained inciteful remarks capable of undermining national cohesion.
According to the DCI, detectives arrested Bare Sahara Ahmed on Sunday, April 26, after reviewing the widely circulated footage on social media and launching investigations to establish the context and intent behind the statements made.
The agency said the suspect is being held in lawful custody and has been processed ahead of her arraignment in court.
At the same time, the DCI reiterated that while freedom of expression is guaranteed under the Constitution, it must be exercised within legal limits and with responsibility.
The agency further cautioned against the spread of content deemed inflammatory, warning that statements that may incite division, hatred, or threaten peaceful coexistence will be dealt with firmly.
It also urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid sharing material that could escalate tensions or mislead others as investigations and legal processes continue.
