DPP Charges Woman Over Alleged Sh200,000 Denmark Job Scam

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has charged a woman with allegedly obtaining Sh200,000 from a man after falsely claiming she could help him secure employment in Denmark.

Leah Wanjiku appeared before Nairobi Principal Magistrate Paul Mutai, where she was charged with obtaining money by false pretences.

The prosecution alleges that Wanjiku obtained the money from Alexander Kyalo Peter after pretending that she was in a position to secure him a job in Denmark, despite allegedly knowing that the claim was false.

Woman accused of promising Denmark job

According to the prosecution, the alleged transaction took place on September 30, 2025, at Absa Towers along Loita Street in Nairobi.

Wanjiku is accused of representing to Peter that she could assist him in securing employment in Denmark and subsequently obtaining Sh200,000 from him based on that representation.

The charge before the court relates specifically to obtaining money by false pretences.

DPP brings case to court

The charges followed investigations into the alleged job fraud, after which the DPP approved prosecution and brought the matter before the Nairobi court.

Wanjiku pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The case will now proceed through the pre-trial process, where the prosecution and defence are expected to address issues including the evidence to be relied upon during the hearing.

Wanjiku released on Sh100,000 bond

Principal Magistrate Paul Mutai released Wanjiku on a Sh100,000 bond pending the hearing of the case.

The matter will be mentioned on September 22, 2026, for pre-trial directions.

The allegations against Wanjiku have not been proved in court. She remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
