EACC Nabs Man Posing as Investigator in Sh2M Scam

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya –The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a man accused of impersonating one of its investigators and attempting to extort millions of shillings from a contractor linked to the Narok County Government.

In a statement, the anti-graft agency identified the suspect as Felix Manyaga Mogaka, who allegedly posed as an EACC investigator and falsely claimed that a company contracted by the county government was under investigation for corruption.

According to the Commission, Mogaka contacted a director of the company and informed him that the firm was being investigated over alleged corruption-related dealings.

He then allegedly offered to influence the outcome of the purported investigation in exchange for money.

EACC said the suspect later arranged a meeting with the company director at a hotel, where he demanded KSh2 million to stop further action against the firm.

The alleged scheme came to light after the contractor reported the matter to the Commission, prompting investigators to launch an operation targeting the suspect.

The operation culminated in Mogaka’s arrest on June 22, 2026, while allegedly receiving KSh200,000, which investigators say was part of the demanded bribe.

“Investigations established that Felix Manyaga Mogaka is not an employee of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission,” EACC said.

The suspect is currently being processed at the Integrity Centre as investigations continue.

The Commission used the incident to caution members of the public against falling victim to individuals falsely claiming to represent EACC.

It emphasized that official summonses are always issued in writing and require individuals to appear at EACC offices. The agency further noted that its officers do not conduct official investigations in hotels or solicit payments to influence investigations.

EACC urged the public to remain vigilant and report any individuals misusing the Commission’s name to commit fraud, extortion, or other criminal activities.

The anti-corruption agency reiterated its commitment to protecting members of the public from impersonators and ensuring that those engaging in corruption-related offences are held accountable under the law.
