NAIROBI, Kenya- Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has been removed from the powerful Senate County Public Accounts Committee (CPAC) and reassigned to the Senate Agriculture Committee in the latest parliamentary committee reshuffle.
The changes mark another setback for Sifuna, who has faced a series of political demotions in recent months amid an escalating fallout within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
Sifuna, who had been serving on the influential County Public Accounts Committee chaired by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang’, will now sit in the Senate Standing Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries.
The County Public Accounts Committee plays a key oversight role by examining reports of the Auditor-General on county governments’ financial statements and expenditure, making it one of the Senate’s most influential watchdog committees.
The latest reshuffle follows Sifuna’s removal from the Senate Energy Committee in June, where he was replaced by Senator Moses Kajwang’ amid growing tensions within ODM over the party’s cooperation with President William Ruto’s administration.
At the time, he was left serving on the County Public Accounts Committee and the National Security, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee.
The committee changes also come just weeks after Sifuna lost his position as Senate Deputy Minority Whip, with Migori Senator Eddy Oketch taking over the leadership role following a resolution by the Minority coalition.
Sifuna’s removal from key Senate positions has coincided with his strained relationship with sections of the ODM leadership.
Earlier this year, he was also removed as the party’s Secretary-General following internal disputes over the party’s political direction and its cooperation agreement with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The latest committee reassignment further reshapes Sifuna’s role in the Senate as political realignments continue within ODM ahead of the 2027 General Election.
