NAIROBI, Kenya- DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has criticised President William Ruto’s visit to Bomet County, accusing his administration of failing to deliver new national government projects in the region.
In a statement, Gachagua said the President’s visit had exposed what he described as unfulfilled promises made to Bomet residents.
“The National Government has done nothing for the people of Bomet County; just false promises,” Gachagua said.
He argued that Ruto did not launch, commission or inspect any new national government project during the tour. Instead, he said, the President visited projects implemented by the Bomet County Government.
Gachagua identified the County Assembly of Bomet and the Mother and Child Hospital as county-funded projects showcased during the visit.
“To show a semblance of some development, he could only visit projects by the County Government, namely the County Assembly of Bomet and the Mother and Child Hospital,” he said.
The former Deputy President also criticised Ruto’s emotional response after encountering a young girl who reportedly spoke about the hardships facing her mother.
Gachagua blamed the President’s administration for the economic challenges affecting families and questioned the sincerity of his reaction.
“Who has deliberately caused these troubles and pain? Who has caused the tears on the young girl?” he asked.
He further accused the government of failing to implement economic charters signed with Bomet, Kericho and other counties before the 2022 General Election.
According to Gachagua, the agreements cannot be fully implemented during the remaining period before the 2027 presidential election.
“The Economic Charters signed between him and the counties of Kericho and Bomet, like the rest of the counties, are gathering dust at the UDA headquarters,” he said.
Gachagua also alleged that money had been distributed to mobilise residents to attend the President’s meetings in Bomet and Kericho, although he did not provide evidence to support the assertion.
He compared the alleged mobilisation payments with those reportedly distributed during the recent Ol Kalou political campaigns, saying residents in the two counties had been “shortchanged.”
“Fix the country, Mr William Ruto,” Gachagua said, concluding his statement with the words: “God save Kenya.”
President Ruto and the government had not responded to Gachagua’s remarks by the time of publication.
