Suspected Child Trafficker Arrested in Kajiado, Four Minors Rescued

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- A joint team of police officers has arrested a suspected child trafficker at Korompoi Trading Centre in Isinya Sub-County, Kajiado County.

The operation brought together officers from the Kenya Police Service (KPS), Administration Police Service (APS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The suspect, identified as Enock Peterson Mwangi, alias Mwamburi, was arrested following investigations into alleged involvement in child trafficking.

Four minors, aged between one and 17 years, were rescued from a bedsitter where the suspect was residing at the time of his arrest.

According to preliminary investigations, detectives believe the suspect may have operated in several areas, including Mashuru in Kajiado County and parts of Nakuru County.

Investigators are pursuing additional leads to establish the extent of the suspected trafficking activities and determine whether other children may have been affected.

The circumstances in which the four minors were found have also raised concerns that they could have been subjected to other forms of abuse.

The children were taken to hospital for medical attention before being placed in safe custody as relevant government agencies undertake further interventions and investigations.

The suspect is being processed ahead of his arraignment in court, where he is expected to face appropriate charges.

The DCI warned that child trafficking remains a serious crime that deprives children of their safety and exposes them to exploitation and abuse.

The agency said it would continue pursuing individuals involved in trafficking, exploitation or abuse of children, as well as those who facilitate such activities.

Authorities are expected to continue with investigations as they seek to establish whether the arrested suspect was acting alone or as part of a wider network.
