NAIROBI, Kenya- Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Dr Fred Matiang’i has criticised the reported blocking of the TuKo Kadi concert team from accessing Uhuru Park, despite organisers allegedly complying with all required approvals.
Matiang’i said the incident reflects a worrying pattern of intolerance and state interference that undermines constitutional freedoms of expression, assembly, and enterprise, particularly affecting youth-led initiatives.
“It is deeply troubling when lawful, youth-driven initiatives are frustrated in this manner,” he said, warning that such actions raise serious questions about the country’s democratic direction as it approaches the next elections.
He argued that when public events that have followed due process can be arbitrarily halted, it signals a need to re-examine fairness in Kenya’s civic and political space.
Matiang’i further called for heightened civic awareness and sustained civic education, especially among young people, urging vigilance in protecting democratic freedoms.
He said Kenya must remain a country where rules are respected, opportunities are safeguarded, and every voice is allowed to be heard without interference.
Authorities have not yet issued a formal response to the claims regarding the alleged blockage of the concert at Uhuru Park.
