NAIROBI, Kenya- Lawyer and political commentator Miguna Miguna has intensified his criticism of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of political hypocrisy and opportunism over his continued stay in the Orange Democratic Movement despite publicly disagreeing with the party’s leadership and direction.
In a statement, Miguna argued that Sifuna cannot continue serving as ODM Secretary General while openly opposing positions taken by the party and its leadership, including those associated with Oburu Oginga.
Miguna questioned why Sifuna remains in the party if he fundamentally disagrees with its current political direction, particularly regarding ODM’s relationship with President William Ruto and the ruling alliance.
“He can’t say that he totally disagrees with and doesn’t support his party leader, Oburu Oginga, or his party’s positions on everything, yet he wants to remain secretary general of a political party he claims to fundamentally disagree with,” Miguna said.
The outspoken lawyer further accused Sifuna of inconsistency, noting that the senator publicly signed the cooperation agreement between ODM and UDA before later criticizing the arrangement. Miguna argued that Sifuna should have taken a stand at the time if he opposed the pact.
Miguna referenced the political path taken by veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, saying leaders who disagree with their parties should resign and seek a fresh mandate from voters rather than remain in positions they no longer support.

The remarks come amid growing debate within ODM over its relationship with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Sifuna has previously stated that he would resign if ODM formally backs Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027, while maintaining that he remains committed to the party’s founding principles.
