Traffic Snarl-Up Hits Mombasa as Nyali Bridge Construction Disrupts Flow

Date:

MOMBASA, Kenya- The National Police Service has issued a public advisory over a major traffic snarl-up affecting key routes in Mombasa City, warning motorists to expect delays for the coming weeks.

According to the police, heavy congestion has been reported along Saba Saba, Buxton and the Nyali Bridge corridor.

Construction works blamed

Authorities said the traffic disruption has been caused by ongoing construction works involving the erection of pillars between Nyali Bridge and the Kengeleni area.

The works are expected to continue for several weeks, raising concerns over prolonged congestion in one of the city’s busiest transport corridors.

Police deploy officers

The National Police Service said it has deployed additional officers to manage traffic flow and enforce road discipline.

Motorists who violate traffic rules risk stern action, the police warned, as authorities move to contain the situation.

To ease congestion, traffic has been diverted along the Kisauni–Malindi–Mombasa Road, with motorists being redirected through Mishomoroni before exiting at Kisauni junction.

Police have urged drivers to follow directions from officers on the ground and observe designated routes.

Public advisory

Motorists have been advised to:

  • Exercise patience amid delays
  • Maintain lane discipline
  • Consider alternative routes where possible

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining order and ensuring safety on the roads as the situation is managed.
