NAIROBI, Kenya- President William Ruto on Monday evening convened a meeting with leaders from Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu and Nandi counties to review preparations for this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, urging an inclusive planning process for the national event.
In a statement after the meeting, the President said the three neighbouring counties will jointly host the celebrations, with Eldoret City serving as the central hub for activities.
“This evening, I hosted leaders from Elgeyo-Marakwet, Uasin Gishu and Nandi counties to discuss the upcoming Mashujaa Day celebrations to be co-hosted by the three counties in Eldoret City,” Ruto said.
The President emphasized that, given the significance of Mashujaa Day in celebrating Kenya’s heroes and heroines, preparations should involve all stakeholders.
“Considering the symbolism of the occasion, I urged the leaders to involve all the stakeholders in preparation of the national event,” he added.
The meeting comes as the government accelerates preparations for the October 20 celebrations, with ongoing construction and upgrading works at Kamariny Stadium in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County, which has been designated as the main venue for the national fete.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen previously announced that the stadium would host the 2026 Mashujaa Day celebrations and expressed confidence that construction would be completed in time.
In recent weeks, national and county government officials have held a series of multi-agency meetings and inspection tours to assess progress at Kamariny Stadium and coordinate infrastructure, security and logistical arrangements ahead of the event.
Mashujaa Day, celebrated annually on October 20, is one of Kenya’s national holidays and honours the country’s heroes and heroines for their contribution to the struggle for independence and nation-building.
This year’s celebrations are expected to draw thousands of guests, including national leaders, diplomats and members of the public from across the country.
