Senate Orders IG Douglas Kanja to Arrest Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – The Senate Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to arrest and present Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo before the committee after he failed to honour a summons to appear on Monday.

The committee, chaired by Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang, issued the directive after Governor Guyo failed to appear before senators at the scheduled sitting on July 27 at 2 p.m.

Senators said the governor’s absence hindered the committee’s oversight mandate and resolved to compel his attendance through law enforcement.

Governor Guyo had earlier written to the committee seeking to be excused from the session, citing prior official county engagements.

In a letter dated July 16, the governor apologised for his inability to attend and requested that the hearing be rescheduled.

“We regret to inform you that His Excellency will be unable to attend the meeting on the scheduled date due to prior official engagements that had been confirmed before the receipt of the invitation,” the letter stated.

Despite the explanation, the committee declined to excuse the governor’s absence and instead ordered Inspector General Kanja to ensure he is arrested and produced before the Senate Public Accounts Committee.
